Organising your library

Everything you add to E-clair lives in a collection, and a collection can be split into sections. This page covers how that structure works: making collections, grouping recordings into sections, sorting a long list, and what actually happens when you rename or delete something.

Structure

How a library is shaped

Library
The tab where every collection you have shows up, alongside any podcasts you subscribe to.
Collection
A named group of recordings with its own cover. Whatever you add — an upload, a pasted link, a podcast episode — belongs to exactly one collection.
Section
An optional folder inside a collection, for splitting a large collection further. A recording sits in one section, or in none.
Collections

Making and using collections

A collection is the first thing E-clair asks about, before it even asks what to call the recording. Tap Add on the Library tab, or Add audio / Paste link inside a collection you already have open, and a sheet asks which collection this goes into — only after you answer that does it ask for a title.

  • Pick any collection already in the list, or tap New collection… and type a name to create one on the spot, without leaving the sheet.
  • A new collection starts with a plain patterned cover. Open it and tap the camera icon in the corner to replace that with a photo of your own.
  • Rename a collection any time with the pencil icon next to its title, on the collection’s own screen.
On the free plan

The free plan limits how many collections you can create at once. Upgrading removes that limit.

Sections

Splitting a collection up

Open a collection and, once it has more than a couple of recordings, sections keep it from turning into one long scroll.

  • Tap New section inside a collection and give it a name to create one.
  • Swipe a recording and tap Move to send it into a section, or to pull it back out with Remove from section.
  • Rename or delete a section with the pencil and trash icons beside it. Deleting a section only removes the section — its recordings stay in the collection, just no longer grouped.
  • Tap a section’s header to collapse or expand it, or use Collapse all / Expand all to do every section at once. E-clair remembers which sections you left collapsed the next time you open the collection.
Sorting

Ordering a long list

Once a collection has more than one recording, a sort control appears next to its count. It offers four orders, and remembers your choice for that collection the next time you open it:

Newest first
The default — the most recently added recording at the top.
Oldest first
The same list, reversed.
Name A→Z
Alphabetical by title.
Name Z→A
Reverse alphabetical.
Details

What a row tells you

A recording’s row tells you where it stands without opening it: its type, and while it is still coming in, a live upload or transcribing percentage. Once it is done, the row shows its duration and date instead — and if you have started listening, a thin bar underneath fills in to show how far through you got.

  • A recording gets its title, and an optional note in the description field, once — when you add it in the Name sheet. There is no separate rename step afterwards, so it is worth taking a moment to give it a name you will recognise later.
  • That note shows in small type under the title back on the collection screen, wherever there is room for it.
  • While a recording is open and playing, its details view shows the collection it belongs to, its cover image, and an AI-generated summary if one has been produced — with a shortcut to change its cover from there too.
Deleting

What deleting removes

  • Delete a collection and everything in it goes too — every section and every recording, permanently.
  • Delete a section on its own and only the section goes. Its recordings are not deleted; they move back out into the collection, unsectioned.
  • Delete a single recording and E-clair removes its audio, transcript and any summary from storage, clears your listening position for it, and — if it is still transcribing — cancels that job.
  • A finished recording deletes the moment you tap Delete — there is no confirmation step, so take care with that swipe. Only a recording still uploading or transcribing asks you to confirm, because deleting it cancels the job in progress.
