Podcasts and subscriptions

A podcast episode does not transcribe itself the way an upload does — you subscribe to a show, then choose which episode to turn into a transcript. This page covers finding a show, what subscribing does, and turning an episode into something you can read.

Getting in

Finding a show

  • Search by name. On the Library tab, tap Add, then Browse podcasts, and use the search box to look a show up by title.
  • Paste an RSS feed. If a show is not in search, tap Add RSS feed and paste its feed URL directly — this works for any podcast with a public feed, including ones not otherwise listed.
  • Browse by language. The same Browse podcasts screen opens on a curated "Get started" list you can filter to a language you are learning, for when you would rather discover a show than search for one you already know.
Walkthrough

Transcribing an episode

01

Open the show

From the Library tab, tap the show in your Podcasts grid, or open it from search or the curated list before you even subscribe — a preview pane shows its cover, description, and a Subscribe button.

02

Subscribe

Tap Subscribe. The show is added to your Library, and E-clair fetches its episode list right away.

03

Open an episode

On the show’s episode list, tap the one you want. Episodes that are not yet transcribed show a quiet "Transcribe" label; this opens a detail screen with the episode’s artwork, description, and a Transcribe Episode button.

04

Tap Transcribe Episode

The row and the detail screen both switch to a live "Transcribing…" state with a percentage that climbs as the job runs. You can back out to the episode list or leave the app — it keeps going.

05

Open the transcript

Once it finishes, the button becomes Open Transcript. Tap it to start reading and listening the same way you would with an upload.

Automatic

What happens with new episodes

Subscribing does not just save the show for later: E-clair refreshes its feed immediately and, if the latest episode has not been transcribed yet, starts transcribing it for you automatically — so there is usually something ready to read the moment you subscribe. After that, E-clair keeps checking subscribed shows for new episodes in the background and auto-transcribes what it finds. If a show publishes several episodes at once, not all of them are auto-transcribed immediately; any left over still show the ordinary "Transcribe" tap on their row.

Orientation

What an episode row is telling you

Listen / Resume
The transcript is ready. A thin accent rail marks these rows so they stand out; Resume appears once you have started listening.
Transcribing
A job is running, with a live percentage while the worker reports progress.
Transcribe
Not yet transcribed — tapping the row opens the episode so you can start it.
Retry
The last attempt failed. Tapping the row opens the episode so you can try again.
Finished
Marked with a checkmark once you have listened all the way through.
Leaving

Managing a subscription

  • From a show’s preview pane, an already-subscribed show reads "Subscribed · Tap to unsubscribe" — tap it to leave.
  • From the show’s own screen, tap Unsubscribe in the header and confirm to leave.
